Introducing: Awesome Old Wood

As a successful career professional, I had no idea a long-term dream to develop a vacation resort would lead me to become a sculptor. Soon after purchasing land in Dadeville, AL, my husband Skip and I found weekends were consumed exploring our land to begin this major project. On one of these weekends I found my first piece of old wood and for some reason felt

compelled to take it home. It was just a piece of an old stump, some of it rotting away and some of it coated in dirt. As I power washed away the dirt and began to scrape and whittle away the soft, rotten areas an amazing transformation began. It was no longer just an old stump, it was finding new life as a piece of Awesome Old Wood that I now call the "Elephant Anteater." I am hooked and my new hobby now gives me a way to relax and create beautiful unique awesome old wood sculptures. Each piece reveals itself to me during the cleaning and sculpting process and by the time I finish it is easy to give each one their own unique name.

My weekends are now spent on our new property looking for old wood just waiting to become awesome. My hope is to find wonderful new homes where each piece can be enjoyed!

This weekend, I will be participating in the 11th annual, Art on the Lake! This is my very first art show so I am very excited to set up my booth!

If you're in the area, please come join us! We'd love to see you!

Love, Rhonda

About the Festival

Located on the serene grounds of Children’s Harbor Chapel and Hank’s Cabin - against the lapping waves of Lake Martin, this year we celebrate the Art on the Lake's 11th festival year! Last year, 47 artisans presented fine arts and handmade crafts to a crowd of more than 5,000 people.

It's free to attend, though a portion of your art purchases help support Children’s Harbor in continuing its mission to provide camp, counseling and support services to seriously ill children and their families.

Memorial Day Weekend

May 26 - 27, 2018, Memorial Day Weekend, is the perfect time for those doing spring cleaning and redecorating to bring new life to their home and wardrobe with original works from local artisans.

How to get there

Children's Harbor is on Lake Martin at Kowaliga, near Alexander City, Alabama. View on Google Maps. You can park free at Time Capsule Park and catch one of the continuous shuttles running to and from the festival.

Make the most of it

You'll find unique art, great company, entertainment and food waiting on you! With the lake just a few steps away, you can take some time to cool off along the shoreline too.

Assistance with transit

Don't let the worry of getting your purchases back to your vehicle keep you from bringing home your favorite pieces. Assistance will be available to get your purchases to your vehicle.
